Should We Shorten School Breaks?

By: Anna Bates

Do you ever feel that during the long school breaks you get bored? Do you ever feel that you are falling behind in school? And, have you ever come back from a long break and found that you have forgotten all about your topics in school? This article will show you all about the reasons why we should shorten the school breaks.

My first reason why we should shorten school breaks is because of the length. Students who struggle in school might find themselves falling further and further behind. Families that have challenges financially might face adversity when paying for childcare. Even for families that don’t have financial challenges when paying for childcare, they still might face issues trying to watch their children while still having to work.

My second reason for why we should shorten school breaks is because some of the best weather of the year occurs in summer. Wouldn’t it be great to have P.E in the best weather of the year? Furthermore, shortening school breaks doesn’t mean eliminating them. Everyone will still have plenty of time for rest and relaxation, while also forgetting less learning material when not in school.

My final reason for why we should shorten school breaks is because the entire basis of having a long break in the summer is based on the days when a huge portion of the community were farmers. According to Markets Insider, 1.3% of the population are employed as farmers. This shows that we no longer should have to base our entire school system off of 1.3% of the population.

It is time to think about shortening school breaks!
